With the release of THE STRANGE CASE OF…, I fell in love with Lzzy Hale. So much so, in fact, that I jokingly got down on one knee and asked her to marry me at Rock On The Range two years ago (a proposal that she didn’t flat out turn down, so maybe there’s still hope!!). Let’s be

THE FATAL FEAST

There are some bands that put out releases and you really, really know exactly what you can expect before ever playing a single note of one of their songs. Municipal Waste are one of those bands. Like all of their previous work, their Slayer meets early Anthrax approach to thrash hits you in the face with short blasts of aggression that leave you worn out after a full listen. Their lyrical outpouring pretty much stays the course as well; a litany of songs about horror, gore, and…well, sickness. These guys clearly don’t take themselves overly seriously, as is evidenced by songs like “Covered In Sick – The Barfer”.

The one issue I have with THE FATAL FEAST is it’s lack of depth, twists or turns. In short, THE FATAL FEAST is a very top level album where each song is so similar from track to track that you barely notice there’s a difference from song to song. Going from songs like “You’re Cut Off” to “Authority Complex”, you barely notice a that you have switched songs.

PITRIFF RATING – 70/100 – With the resurgence of this style of thrash metal these days, Municipal Waste has separated themselves from the rest of the pack. THE FATAL FEAST is pretty standard fare for this collection of thrashers. It’s got one speed, one direction and one very universal sound. Decent listening, but not overly great by any means.
