  • Sevendust - KILL THE FLAW

Image: Sevendust, Kill The Flaw Sevendust

When I first saw Sevendust’s new release was titled KILL THE FLAW, my initial thought was “what exactly is the flaw?” It leads you to wonder just what it is that caused this band to not break big, while bands with lesser quality catalogs like Disturbed or Korn had such crazy amounts of success at the same time. This

They don’t do it that often anymore, but there’s always excitement when Iron Maiden comes out with new music. Knowing that they are closing in on the end of their career, you really do end up hoping that when they go out for good, it will be with a bang. I think it’s universally agreed upon that

Image: Slayer, Repentless, Pitriff, Review, Thrash Metal, Chris Akin Slayer

Probably more than any release in their history, Slayer came into releasing this album at a crossroads. This WAS the album that, in many ways, dictated if the band could continue on or if it was indeed time to drift off quietly to Hell. The loss of guitarist Jeff Hanneman and the removal of drummer Dave Lombardo had almost every Slayer

  • Operation: Mindcrime - THE KEY

Image: Operation Mindcrime, Geoff Tate, Reviews, Music, heavy metal Operation: Mindcrime

Geoff Tate’s falling out and subsequent two years of lawsuits, multiple versions of the same band and overall craziness in the press definitely tarnished a legacy that once seemed untouchable. Think about it. Even with over a decade of arguably bad releases (Q2K, TRIBE, AMERICAN SOLDIER, DEDICATED TO CHAOS), it wasn’t until the now infamous spitting incident and the

W.A.S.P. is one of those bands that has a ridiculously loyal fanbase...and good for them, actually. Doing THE CLASSIC METAL SHOW, we get shit on repeatedly anytime we say anything that is less than glowing about W.A.S.P., Blackie Lawless or any of the band’s former or present members. Oh well...comes with the territory, I guess. After what seems like quite a

We're definitely in a different musical age. Certainly, the digital age has produced a new way to record music, but I doubt a nationally signed act has ever done a full, completely fleshed out project quite the way OSI did. For those that don't know, OSI is a project featuring Jim Matheos of Fates Warning fame, and Kevin Moore who's best known for his time in Dream Theater. What's so different about this? Well, the guys have created a completely intricate, deep and fully fleshed out sound without ever spending a moment in the studio. That's right - FIRE MAKE THUNDER is 100% the product of the electronic age. I think if I was in this band, I would have called this EMAIL, since they undoubtedly spent hours emailing back and forth, skyping, and FTPing tracks back and forth.

Vampires Everywhere, News, heavy metal, cd reviewsVAMPIRES EVERYWHERE! is proud to announce their sophomore album, Hellbound and Heartless, will be available on June 19 via Hollywood Waste Records.  This release showcases the darker side of VAMPIRES EVERYWHERE!, focusing on message-driven lyrics and deriving musical influence from industrial rock icons such as Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie.  Hellbound and Heartless was co-produced by the band and Mike Sarkisyan and Tommy Decker, both members of Grammy-nominated, alternative-metal act SPINESHANK.  Every song on the album presents a fresh, new morsel of Gothic darkness for fans to sink their teeth into.

Image: Heathen, News, Heavy Metal, PitriffThe ink has finally dried and Nuclear Blast Records is proud to announce the worldwide signing of the Bay Area's indomitable thrash metal band HEATHEN!

Founding member & guitarist Lee Altus comments on the new alliance:

"I'm really happy and couldn't think of a better label for HEATHEN.  I've known people at Nuclear Blast, some of whom have been fans of the band going as far back as the early demo days, and have been friends with them for many years.  It's amazing for me to think that throughout this band's career, every album we recorded has been released  on a different label.  I can finally say that we have found home.  Nuclear Blast has become a mecca for Bay Area thrash bands and we are happy to join our friends and partners in crime Exodus, Death Angel, Testament and Forbidden.  Now it's time to get to work on the new album!"

Image: The Agonist, Pitriff, Heavy Metal NewsAfter spending many months in the studio, melodic death metallers THE AGONIST will finally be unleashing their long-awaited third studio album, Prisoners, on June 4th in Europe and June 5th in North America via Century Media Records. The band is now ready to give fans their first preview of this upcoming release with the premiere of their new single, "Ideomotor"! Head over to Guitar to hear this track:

Image: Prong, Carved Into Stone, Pitriff, CD ReviewProng

Tommy Victor once told me that Prong was “the cockroach of Rock N’ Roll”. As he put it, there wasn’t really anything that could truly cause Prong to go away. Not poor sales. Not changes in the industry. Not even changes in the band itself. He has proven that statement right for years now. While Prong is more of a part time thing for Victor at this point with other obligations to everyone from Glenn Danzig to Ministry, it’s still always a good thing when Prong reconvenes for a new album.
